Motorola XOOM will have a barometer sensor inside, says Moto

Motorola XOOM will have a barometer sensor inside, says MotoWell, well, well, what do we have here? Will the real poster child for Android please stand up? Now we are positive that it will be the Motorola XOOM tablet, and we take our condescending words back on the Android 2.3 Gingerbread barometer support, which we thought will not be used any time soon in a device.

When we wrote about the new Android version's native support of motion and other sensors, we saw barometer listed, but at the time we considered it just thrown in there for a good measure

A reference platform, however, is a reference platform, and Moto just let the cat out of the bag on its Facebook page that the Motorola XOOM will indeed have a barometer inside, and it is also listed in the list of sensors at the official XOOM developers' page. It should help for more accurate predictions of your local weather conditions, and measuring altitude in general will come in handy, especially for outdoorsy types.

It is nice to see that Google, Motorola and NVIDIA have thrown everything in the Motorola XOOM that will showcase both the full under-the-hood capabilities of both Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and the UI of the tablet edition Android 3.0 Honeycomb. Moto's 4G-capable tablet is supposed to appear on shelves in March.
